When people think about the late 60s through the 70s, they think of the hippies and the counterculture. But in the 70s, there were many different kinds of people, including people with severe mental illnesses and drug addicts. These people lived in the 70s, 80s, and 90s and were not always well and well-liked.
The 70s are often lumped in with the early 80s for a lot of people because the social norms of the time were so different from what we know today. But a closer look shows that the 70s was one of the most violent decades of the 20th century. It was no longer the era of the “hippie” and the counterculture. It was the era of the drug-addicted, the mentally ill, and the people with severe mental illness.
The 70s was also the era of the first AIDS cases, and it was the era of the first gay rights movement. The people who had been labeled “unlovable” by society were fighting the fight. Not only do these people have the power to affect change, but they’ve also been labeled “the enemy.” That’s still true, even in the 21st century.
The 90s brought new attitudes about mental health, new forms of drug use, and new forms of violence. It was the era of the first “post-racial” generation, those who were born after the civil rights movement and the gay rights movement. They didnt have to choose between being black or white or straight. They were both black and white. That doesnt mean they didnt have to fight for equal rights.
In the 70s we were all in the closet. We didnt have to hide our feelings. We didnt have to pretend we didnt care about gay marriage, or our kids not getting married. In fact, we didnt have to hide any of it. We had to just go along with it. Now, in the 21st century, we can all go out and vote. And we can all go out and be ourselves.
This is a big shift in the media landscape that teenagers are embracing. In the last 20 years or so, we have seen a huge shift in the media landscape with regard to media representation of teenagers. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you had to go out of your way to find a decent piece of media about teenagers, especially as a teenager. Nowadays, teenagers are pretty well represented in movies, music videos, and even in the news.
Back in the late 70s and early 80s, you had to look hard for teen magazines or TV shows. It wasn’t easy. Today, because of internet and social media, we can find all kinds of things about teenagers all over the place. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that teens are not seen as inherently cool, not even cool as a teen.
The problem is that this often leads to a huge divide between the media and the general public. This division causes many of us to view teenagers in a negative light. We don’t want to see them as any less of a human being. We want to see them as anything and everything we want them to be. Instead of seeing them as cool, popular, and fun, we just want to see them as “normal.
This is a problem, but it isnt because of the media, its because of our own media. It was bad when we watched the 70s, but now that we are old enough to be able to see the 80s, we just cant get past the fact that we want to see people like us, or at least our older sister.
