This is The Sutherland News, a news site that covers all the latest in art, music, film, and theater.
This is the sixth and final in a weekly series of videos that we’ve recorded about the art scene. In this session we cover the latest works by Andy Warhol, David Bowie, and Andy Warhol’s latest film, The Day After.
This video is sponsored by a certain art dealer called David Sutherland, who is also the producer of a particular movie called, The Day After. And one thing that we find interesting is that Sutherland is on record as saying that he doesn’t like Andy Warhol, and that he’d like to have him killed. Here’s the scoop: Andy Warhol, who’s famous for his oil paintings and his work in the arts, is one of the most controversial figures in the art world.
Warhol was a dealer in the 1950s and ’60s who was famous for his work with sex and horror films. Not surprisingly, Warhols work is considered a threat to the artistic community in the United States. He was fired from his job at the Fine Art Society of New York in 1959 after a series of protests, including the painting of a nude. This was the first time Warhol had been fired for political reasons. He continued to sell his art through his life.
It’s also interesting to note that Warhol’s work was also a huge influence on many art students and critics at the time. As a result, a number of artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe and Keith Haring began using Warhol’s work as a reference.
Haring was a big Warhol fan, and it seems likely that Warhol would have been a major influence on a number of other artists including those who would eventually move into art school. And while Warhol didn’t actually live to see the end of his art career, it’s hard to imagine that he wouldn’t have had an influence on the art he was creating.
A few years after Warhol died, another artist named Steven Sutherland died, apparently at age 47, at the age of just 50 in the middle of an art show at the Whitney. As part of the show, Sutherland was shown around by a number of other artists, including Warhols, but only one of them is credited in Warhol’s obituary.
In his recent interview with Vanity Fair, Sutherland says that Warhol, who he feels was a great influence on his art, “was the first major person I’ve ever talked to who really got it.” Sutherland has, in the past, claimed to be the first major artist to be affected by the death of Warhol, who had, in turn, influenced the artist’s later work.
Warhol claimed the influence of the artist he was working with on his early work. This is something that is very hard to prove, but the fact that Sutherland has been in the same studio working with Warhol and not with him at all seems like a pretty strong claim. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Sutherland is a Warholite in his own right.
I can’t remember how many Sutherland paintings I’ve seen, but I think I can claim that one of them was one of the first that Warhol did, which is a pretty big deal. This is the one that stands out for me, one of the first of the artist’s that Sutherland did a work with. If we’re to believe the rumors, this is the one that stands out the most.
