The positive pressure ventilation device (PPVD) works by using positive pressure to force air through the air vents, creating a vacuum. The air then blows into the room. The negative pressure in the room then forces the air out again. The difference between the two is that negative pressure is what pushes the air into the room, while positive pressure forces it out. The PPVD is similar to an upright vacuum cleaner, except that it is mounted up against the wall.
This is a device that I can use to clean up the bathroom. It actually works and it is also very inexpensive. I’d imagine that it could be used for other rooms too.
I can’t find any real technical information about this but I do find it interesting.
The PPVD isn’t the only negative pressure device out there. A quick google search finds the idea of a “positive pressure ventilation system” and a vacuum cleaner that is also called a “negative pressure suction system.” The differences are that the PPVD is mounted against the wall and uses air to push air out. The vacuum cleaner is mounted against the ceiling and uses negative pressure to suck up dust.
The PPVD is only useful if you can find a way to get it out the walls, but then all it needs is a thin, airtight sheet of plastic (or vinyl or whatever) to seal the top. You can get these things at any hardware store or home improvement store.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that the PPVD is very safe. But I am also going to give the caveat that it is not foolproof. If the PPVD is not mounted to the wall, then you will not be able to use it. But if you have a thick, airtight sheet of plastic or vinyl or whatever, then you can use it, as long as you seal it up.
There are many types of positive pressure ventilation devices, and all of them have their pros and cons. The one you’re more likely to find in a hardware store is the “open ended” one with a hose that comes out at the top. When the air pressure in the room you are in increases, then the air will go through the hose and come out the other side. But if the air pressure is too great, then the air will go out the other side of the hose.
This means that a room with too much air pressure will take much longer to vent than one with too little. Also, most of these devices only work if you have a ventilation system in your house. They can be a pain to maintain. But for now, you can still use them, if you don’t mind the smell and the mess.
I am not sure about all the potential uses of positive pressure, but I have heard from a couple of our readers that it might be good to put a fan that blows on the outside of the vent.
We always liked the idea of positive pressure, and it’s definitely something we’re planning to look into. What would be the potential benefits? It’s worth noting that positive pressure is not as effective at venting a bedroom when you have people in there. If you have a regular window, it will suck all the air out of the room. With a positive pressure vent, you can pull in all the air and then pull it out again.
