I used to work in a fire station and every day there were always people who would say “this is so loud, I can’t stand it.” I personally feel that the same thing could be said for many other activities. For me, it’s the anxiety of being stuck in a building that I can’t stand. Sometimes though, I can’t stand it, but I also find it to be a necessary part of the job.
When you’re in the firehouse you’re always going to feel claustrophobic, but when you’re working in a building full of them, you’re going to feel it more than ever. This is because your job is to make the fire (or the smoke) go away as quickly as possible, and it can be extremely hard to do.
I have noticed this anxiety in my time working in the firehouse. I dont know why, but I always seem to be having more panic attacks than the other guys when work isnt busy.
There are two things that can help, one being taking medications (such as Valium) and the other being taking breaks in the firehouse. The more anxiety you have, the more you have to take off from work, and the more you have to take off from the firehouse.
I don’t know if I can recommend Valium, or if there is a way to take breaks in the firehouse. My biggest problem is that I work in a place where a lot of the firefighters are ex-military, and it’s hard to figure out what the best way to do that is.
It depends on where you work. In the Army and Fire Fighter Institute of Chicago (FIAC) you might have to take a few days off once a year to take Valium. In FIAC, the guys I worked with always took a break in the firehouse, and this was just one of the perks of being a firefighter. You can see the fireman’s rules on the FIAC website.
FIAC is a great place to get a feel for firefighters. I worked there for a while and I spent a good amount of time going to events. There are a lot of great events for firefighters where they go out and get a good night’s sleep, and it’s a great way to get a good work out. Even just walking around the city will teach you a lot about firefighting.
One of the perks of being a firefighter is that you get to burn rubber. I know this because I spent a good part of my working life in the firehouse. I was a firefighter for a very long time. I grew up in the firehouse and have worked in a lot of fire houses. I have a lot of scars from climbing the ladder, fires, falling down, etc. I hate the idea of having to do this all day long.
This is why it’s so important to get into the habit of breathing through your mouth. Many occupations give you a mask which you put over your nose and mouth at work. This masks your air so your lungs don’t leak. I am a huge fan of inhaling. I know this because I recently bought a new inhaler. I have been using them since I worked at a firehouse. There just aren’t any other options.
There are a lot of ways to deal with claustrophobia, but one that I am finding very useful is the breath-holding technique. You can hold your breath for a while, then release it. It’s not 100% effective but it helps a lot.
