I used to tell myself that people don’t usually see my work unless they are already impressed with it, so the next best thing to seeing it is seeing it in a scientific journal. I used to tell myself I wouldn’t do it, but after I had 3 published papers to my name, that’s when I realized that it’s not the work you’re seeing that matters, it’s the work you’re seeing.
When you read a paper, its hard to know if it is a good paper or not. Its hard to know if your work is worthwhile, but it is also hard to know if its being studied for something other than its utility. When you don’t know the answer, you can’t tell if its good or not. The fact is that when I was first starting out with my research, I would try to do it all myself.
