Insulin is the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels and is given to diabetics to keep them from consuming sugar. You need to be aware of how much insulin you have in your system and how it is working.
To help keep you on top of your insulin levels you can use a blood glucose monitor like the one we reviewed in our last post. You take a small dropper and put it on your finger. It will tell you when you have a high level of sugar in your blood.
The problem here is that the only people who use blood glucose monitors are diabetics, people who already have type 1 diabetes, and the patients of diabetics who may get sick because they take too much insulin. The only way to get a blood glucose monitor is to have your doctor give you insulin injections. This is extremely uncomfortable and you will experience a lot of back and forth between the doctor and your own body.
You know it’s bad when you have to repeat a doctor’s appointment or call a diabetic clinic to get a blood glucose monitor. You’d think that since a large percentage of diabetics take insulin, that you’d be in good shape to take care of yourself, but the truth is that many diabetics take insulin for very good reasons, but the diabetes in the rest of our bodies is killing them.
The good news is that you can reverse or prevent this by taking your insulin before you start your insulin shots. Even though this is not 100% foolproof, it helps to prevent you from dropping your blood sugar levels too low and getting dangerously hungry. As a precaution, I’d advise taking it at your blood sugar level so that you can avoid the insulin shots in the future.
I’ve been taking my insulin for years, and I take it every morning before I go to work. I just forgot to take it this morning. I feel like I’ve got to go back in to work and have my blood sugar tested. I’m afraid that it’s too late.
We were lucky to have Dr. John, a very knowledgeable and helpful gentleman, come to our house last night to check on us. He checked on his own patients and gave us some good advice on how to take the shots. Also, he gave us some great advice about the insulin shots.
I think we had a good doctor, but we’re not sure. Last time we had him we went into a diabetic coma for a few days and I don’t think he had a clue what was going on. We’re still trying to figure out what was going on and when the insulin shot was needed.
Dr. John was very knowledgeable and very helpful. He told me that I had to take my insulin on a schedule and that the shots would be needed after a certain amount of time. He also gave us great advice on how to take the shots. The good news is that he was also really, really nice. What a guy.
I’m not sure what was so special about Dr. John. I know I’d have to take my insulin every day to stay healthy and I’ve never had that. I’d like to think he would have said I should take it every day, but I guess I didn’t make the connection since he was always so nice.
