It’s a big world out there. We live in a world where, at the most basic level, we can’t see our surroundings. We can’t hear a train whistle or a song on the radio. While we can see and hear the world around us, we don’t really know what to do with it. We want to move on and forget about it and that is understandable.
What we can do with it though is call upon the powers of technology to solve the problem of our surroundings. While we cant really see what we want to do with it, we can use technology to get us where we want to go. In the film, we see mice at the bottom of their cage watching the world go by. They can tell that we are bored, lonely, and looking for something. We can use the technology to get to those mice.
Well, we can. We can use our cell phones to get to the mice. We can go online and say “Hey, I’m bored and lonely, want to find something?” or “Hey I’m a mouse and I’m looking for something.” That is all it takes to get the mice to follow us to do what we want.
There’s an old saying that goes, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well.” Sure, it’s cliché, but the point is, we can get to the mice. We just have to know how to use the technology that we have access to.
We can use cell phones, computers, and other tech to get to the mice. But we have to know how to use the tech that we have access to. Because the technology we have access to is not always the most reliable. Many people have said it’s like a “trust me, I’ve used it before” approach. But to me, it’s worse because the technology we have access to is often unreliable.
The technology we have access to, isn’t always reliable. We can make a phone call, send a text, and even email us an image of a mouse. And we can upload this image to our website. We can even email a photo of a mouse to someone we trust. But, unfortunately, the technology we have access to isn’t always reliable.
For example, when I was in school we had to use test mice to teach our students how to write and research, but they were unreliable because they were made by a company that had no business ethics. And now that the technology is available, the companies that made these mice are no longer making them, and they are no longer reliable.
The reason we use test mice is because it is very easy to tell who is a mouse and who is a rat. Anyone can buy a mouse, and that is all that is required to tell them apart (unless of course they are hiding behind a desk when you see them, and you have to take them out). The real reason we use rats for test mice is because it allows us to make sure that the mice are healthy and have a good health record.
Most of us, especially the general public, have become very familiar with the two-sided nature of the argument. As a result, we are now quite good at pointing out to others that the two-sided nature of the argument is not good. Often times we are able to point out that the two-sided nature of the argument is not good because others have become very good at pointing that out.
