The Rome News Tribune is the premier source for news and advertising in Oneida County, New York. The newspaper was established in 1865 by William A. Jones who published a four-page weekly edition from his office on Main Street in downtown Rome. It has been family-owned since its inception and is now operated by the third generation of Jones’ descendants.
In 2013, The Rome News-Tribune moved to a new location at 44 Wootton Road near the corner of Route 20A and State Highway 365 (Cherry Valley Turnpike). It features a state-of-the-art press with an automated folding machine that can print 50 pages per minute.

A lot has changed about our old building at 44 Wootton Road over the years, including its name – it used to be known as Hoffmann Printing Company until we took ownership back from them nearly 60 years ago! We have made many changes over time (we had black ink for decades after electricity came into play) but one important thing never changed: you can count on us to have up-to-date technology.
In 2018, we invested in a new Goss printing machine that can print 50 pages per minute – meaning your newspaper will come out the door faster than ever before! We also made some big changes internally when it came to how our production staff works, making our work more efficient and effective all around.
“We’re using state of the art equipment,” Senior Vice President for Hoffmann Printing Company Reese Russell said of the investment.”It’s going to save us time as well.”
The Rome News-Tribune is still one of Rome City’s most popular newspapers with nearly 23,000 subscribers weekly from across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida who rely on their local paper for breaking news stories, sports, arts, and entertainment.
We try to do a good job of covering the basic news,” Russell said.”But we also want to be known more for our features that include things like ‘People in Action,’ which profiles local people who are doing interesting or important work around town.
The company has been part of the Rome community for generations with Hoffmann currently at its third generation as owner. And they’re just getting started! The newspaper plans on continuing to invest in itself – ensuring it’s providing readers with what they need from their hometown paper now and into the future.
