This piece is my favorite quote from a few years ago. It goes something like “It’s not about whether you have to pay for the stuff, it’s about how you utilize it.” What we do with our money is ultimately how much it helps our lives. I’ve written a handful of pieces on this topic in the past. This one is a little different because I’m using it to advocate for osteoporosis awareness.
Unfortunately, the number of people who are aware of osteoporosis is extremely low. The statistics are staggering: 40% of the people with osteoporosis live in developed countries, and almost half of those are in the United States. That means that every year there are millions of Americans living with osteoporosis. The problem is, they have been given little or no knowledge of osteoporosis.
The problem is that osteoporosis awareness has not been a priority in educational programs. Even in high school, osteoporosis awareness is not a top priority. As part of the curriculum, we often learn about the disease, but the focus is often on the consequences of not taking calcium and vitamin D. In other words, we focus on the physical consequences of osteoporosis, but not the emotional consequences of not being informed of the seriousness of the disease.
This is a problem because osteoporosis awareness is not something people learn in school. It’s something we learn about in college, but at a young age. It’s something we learn about in medical school, but it’s something that should have been a priority in school.
We’ve always thought of osteoporosis as something that happens to the bones. But the truth is that when we have a problem with our bones we feel like our bones are going to start to fall apart. This is why osteoporosis awareness is so important. It is not something that you get from a doctor, you don’t get it from a college class, and it doesn’t happen suddenly.
Its important to note that osteoporosis is a condition that affects the growth of your bones. So, you cant have it and not have a problem. And if youve already had a problem with your bones, then chances are youve already been dealing with it for some time.
In the movie Bone Wars, you see how bad osteoporosis is as a young girl. To make matters worse she was diagnosed with it when she was only eleven, which is why she didnt notice the trouble till later. The fact that she was diagnosed at such a young age is really scary. And that she didnt feel the pain is also scary.
So, you dont have to feel that pain for a while after a bone-loss, but you do have to live with it all the same.
It comes with age, but the reality is that it is really hard to live with it. The truth is, there is no “one size fits all” for osteoporosis. Different people have different tolerance levels. One person may notice a difference after a few years, but another person may have no change in their bone density after a few years. Even the same person may have different symptoms depending on their age and how much they exercise.
People can have different tolerance levels for the same osteoporosis-related symptoms, so it’s possible that what you perceive as normal for you may not be normal for many others. In this case it might be best to consult with your doctor about what the right amount of exercise is to help you live a healthy life.
