Our survival rate is one of the least important areas of life. It is just a fact that as long as we are alive and healthy, we will never be as effective as we can be. For example, we all know that the majority of people who die from drowning are the ones that end up in the ocean.
Why is this important? To find out, check out this study from the University of Pennsylvania. It indicates that people who die from drowning or being struck by a vehicle are the ones that have the least chance of surviving the next day. The same is true for a stroke or heart attack.
It’s true that people who have no health problems are more likely to survive a stroke or heart attack. This is because those who have no health problems have more resources in their bodies to deal with the physical damage. Yet, with health issues, people may have the chance to recover faster and may have more time to be able to save a life or prevent a near-death situation from happening.
I think the easiest and most accurate way to determine this is to look at the average time it takes people to die in the U.S. population, since that’s the most comprehensive data available.
I have to admit, I’m a bit of an outlier. I’m a doctor, so I’m probably the most qualified person out there to do this kind of statistics research. My studies also make me a bit of an exception, so I’ll let you know what I found. I’ll also give you the data to compare (based on the average ages of the people who died, you can see how long the time to recovery (TTR) is).
The TTR for people who die in the US in a given year is based on their average age. People over 40 tend to die quicker than their younger counterparts.
There are some outliers in the study, for instance, people who live for over a hundred years, and they live longer than the average. It’s a small sample, but it is interesting. TTR is also affected by the amount of trauma caused by death. People get shorter TTRs when they’ve survived extreme trauma like a car accident or a major surgery.
The way that TTR is calculated, it’s based on the average age of a person’s death. When someone is younger, their death is easier to detect and harder to be accurate. As people get older, death becomes less noticeable and the TTR formula becomes less accurate. This doesn’t mean that there are no outliers. There are still people who appear to have survived an accident or a major surgery.
The survival rate of trauma is another one of those things that can be difficult to get a handle on. Some people recover from trauma more quickly than others. The reason for this is that there are some things that are more difficult to recover from than others. One of the ways that this may happen is that the amount of trauma your body has experienced can cause your body to become less resilient. As you age, your body can cause you to deteriorate more quickly than it did in your younger years.
People who live in disasters, which are a lot like war, tend to experience more trauma than people who do not live in disaster areas, especially if they are in the midst of a disaster.
