I recently had my colonoscopy, and I felt comfortable telling the doctor that I chew gum, and so I did. He wasn’t surprised, and he didn’t ask me what I was chewing.

I know that chewing gum before a colonoscopy can be dangerous, but I think the doctor should be aware that it is an advantage. It makes it harder for you to feel all-too-relieved (as you might be feeling after the endoscopy) that you didn’t get cancer.
I guess they don’t know this, but gum is one of those things that seems to have lots of benefits. In the past, I could only chew gum for about three minutes before I got really sick, so chewing gum before a colonoscopy might actually help. Although I am not sure that I would still feel all-too-relieved if I didn’t have the usual symptoms of an endoscopy like bloating, heartburn, or cramps.
Gum is one of those things that sounds like a good idea at first, but I think it actually has the potential to be a harmful habit. The main reason why you should not chew gum before surgery is because if you do, you will end up eating it. So if you do need to chew gum, you should probably do it for about three minutes after the surgery because that’s the amount of time it takes for you to start feeling all-too-relieved.
The biggest problem I see with gum is that it’s an addiction. If you do not have another habit to help you, then you can be a good candidate for gum addiction.
The same goes for chewing gum. If you’re chewing gum before a colonoscopy, make sure you drink enough water, because the longer you chew the more pressure you put on your colon.
A few weeks ago I was getting a colonoscopy. I was sitting in a waiting room with my wife and my best friend, and my husband was next to me, looking like he was getting ready for his own colonoscopy. I was looking around the room, trying to figure out what to do to keep myself calm and focused, when my mom came in with my stomach in her arms.
My mom was about to tell me if I needed anything. What she was really saying was that I should not eat anything with that on it, because it would make me think I was having a colonoscopy. I was thinking “I was a little nervous too”, and I immediately pulled out my stomach full of gum. I was so freaked out by how much I was acting like I was having a colonoscopy, I forgot to eat my sandwich.
It’s an interesting case because if your mom sees something like this, it’s bound to make it much more difficult for you to feel as calm and focused as I was. It’s like someone giving you a wedgie or something. It’s really hard to just get through the day.
