The Toronto Raptors have been one of the premier teams in the eastern conference for the better part of the past several seasons in the NBA. Unfortunately, they have found themselves coming up just short on too many occasions to count. Now there are plenty of things to point to as it pertains to why that always seems to be the case, but if you ask me it is mostly to do with the lack of a top option on the team. Don’t get me wrong, I love DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry and what they do and have done for this Toronto franchise, but on too many occasions we’ve found one or both players coming up short in the postseason.
Toronto should look to land someone like Kawhi Leonard or DeMarcus Cousins this offseason. A definitive top option that would not only relieve Lowry and DeRozan of some of the load they carry but also make the Raptors an even bigger championship threat in the long run.
Alternative: Blow It Up
The constant underachievement in the postseason cost Dwane Casey his job, and on top of that the personnel have shown time and again that they are incapable of getting to the top and reaching the NBA Finals. Definitely go after that number one option first, but if you can’t land one marquee star this offseason, blowing it up is the move to make.
