The Georgetown Fencing Team traveled to Ames, Iowa on Saturday, October 1st for the Ames Tournament. The team competed against teams from all across the Midwest and came home with a winning record of four wins and two losses!
This was the first time in four years that Georgetown’s men’s team had competed against other schools, as they were not eligible for NCAA competition due to fencing rules. The Ames Tournament featured teams from across the Midwest and allowed Georgetown a chance to test their skills against some of the best fencers in America!
The Georgetown men’s team, consisting of Kevin Haung ’19 and Peter DiMaggio ’20, did well at the tournament. They finished with four wins and two losses in all three rounds on Saturday. This was an incredible feat for a first-year fencing squad! However, they were not able to maintain their momentum, and lost to Ohio State in the first round of Sunday’s competition.
In total, there were 15 schools present for both men’s and women’s fencing. The tournament was a great opportunity to see some of the best fencers in America!
Georgetown Fencing is a club sport at Georgetown University that competes in Division I of the NCAA. The program’s goal is to foster an interest and skill with foil, epee, and saber fencing for all students on campus regardless of previous experience.

The Georgetown fencing team is off to an excellent start this season after winning their first tournament and finishing as one of only two teams with a perfect record on the day.
