My friend, the author of tatum o’neal bad news bears, recently had the chance to attend an event at the New York Times. We got to talk for just a few minutes before he took a seat, and one of the things he said that stuck out was that he did not believe there were any good news to be found at a news event.
Well, that’s not entirely true. There is a lot of good news, it’s just that most of it is negative, and not all of it is positive either.
Some people might think it’s a waste of money to attend an event like that, but in general, the media are important for informing people, particularly when there is negative news to be found. In fact, there are times when good news is all it takes to change things. It’s as though we’ve been conditioned to think there is only good news to be found in news events, but in reality there are times when we need to turn to positive news.
I think the media are great for informing people and changing things when there is negativity to be found. But when there is negativity in the news, we often need to turn to positive news. We don’t want to just turn to news that tells people the bad news, we don’t want to turn to news that tells people the positive news. A lot of people like to see the negativity, but we don’t want to see the news filled with negativity.
I hate when people say, “I want to see negativity in the news, but I dont want to see the news filled with negativity.” That is the exact opposite of what I want to see. If you know me well, you know I am a huge fan of negativity. I love a good scaremonger. I love a good headline. I love a good story that makes the world look bad.
I love a good news story because it is filled with news that makes the world look good. It makes the world look bad and makes the reader feel good. So no news is better than news filled with negativity.
The problem with negativity in the news is that it’s easy to get caught up in the “news cycle”. We see headlines that read “Rioters attack city hall in Dublin”. In fact, the headline that I’m most familiar with is this one: “Dunkirk: British soldier”. If you don’t know what Dunkirk is, it is one of the worst places to be in.
I think the Dunkirk story is really overplayed. Of course the soldiers who died there would have been great news, but the fact that so many soldiers died in the course of this story is just a bit overhyped. This is not news. This is a battle that we live in.
I’ve seen plenty of stories about so-called “Irish terrorists”. But the real Irish terrorist is Imma (Imma is a word, of course). The real Irish terrorist is a guy named Imma, who has been in the US for years. He is the founder of a militant group called the Irish Resistance Group. He has been planning terrorist attacks in the US ever since he was in prison. I feel like we need to just talk about Imma for a second.
