This past week saw a huge controversy unfold in the gay marriage debate in the United States. There is so much controversy in our nation about this issue, it is one that has divided the country. It is really hard to have an issue that has so many sides and is so complicated. But, the issue is that what is happening in the United States has a lot of people so mad, they are no longer able to think straight or not think straight.
I don’t think that will ever change. The people who want to change the law to allow gay marriage are going to get voted out of office every single election cycle, so it will just keep getting worse and worse. I am not saying gay marriage will not be a reality in the United States, but I am saying that it will be a reality when it happens.
For the record, I’m not planning on changing the law to allow gay marriage. It won’t even be a conversation in my house.
Even if you do change the law, I doubt most people will. The only people I know who say they will is politicians, and not a lot of them are politicians. The last time I checked all the politicians in the United States are gay. So if you’re not going to change the law, what are you going to do about the gay politicians? They’ll just keep their mouths shut, and vote in even more people.
In the end, I think people who are opposed to gay marriage are saying that they want to be in the same boat as everyone else. But the reality is that most gay people are against gay marriage because they view the institution as a symbol of oppression. The fact that there are still people who are opposed to gay marriage but support gay people is a testament to that.
The recent court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in California is a beautiful example of how the legal system can be used to change attitudes. The court did not create marriage, a civil legal union, but as the only two states left that have such unions, they can still be used to change attitudes. In a way, it’s a testament to how much more complex the marriage debate is than gay marriage.
Same sex marriage is very complex as well, but the decision is a good example that a court can find itself on the wrong side of a controversial issue. For many, the decision is a big step forward for equality. As the court noted, “a person’s decision to enter a different life path is protected by the Constitution.” I certainly don’t agree with that statement, but I think the idea of “protecting” a person’s decision to enter a different life path is a good one.
The issue with gay marriage being a step forward is that it was not always so. Before gay marriage became a recognized right in 2001, there were over 30 states that were opposed to it. It was only after the Supreme Court decided in favor of it that they were all forced to end their opposition.
I think that the idea of gay marriage being a step forward is really a stretch. It is, of course, a step in the right direction, but it’s not a step towards equality. The issue is that it was just legalized for the first time, and now we have to wait until it’s legal to marry another person. If gay marriage were truly about equality, we would have already had it by now.
The biggest obstacle to gay marriage being a step in the right direction is the stigma that comes with it. The issue with that is that we already have the same laws in place for other kinds of relationships. If we had marriage equality there would be no reason for more gay couples to seek marriage. It would be a step in the right direction, but it’s not a step towards equality.
