Today was supposed to be a typical NBA trade deadline day. The NBA, however, is notorious for a multitude of reasons. The NBA is a very competitive league, and it is expected that teams will trade away players in order to help their teams win and stay competitive. This year, the NBA trade deadline is less than a week after the regular season ended.
This year’s trade deadline, which happened today, has gotten a lot of hype, especially since some teams are rumored to be trying to trade for a future star. The NBA has been known for trading its stars for a lot of years, so it’s not surprising to see them in the middle of the trade deadline.
This is actually a good thing for the league because there is likely to be some serious interest in acquiring a star at this year’s trade deadline. Teams have been rumored to be looking for an All-Star caliber player since the mid-1990’s, and in recent years, the trade deadline has played a big role in determining the value of a players career.
That’s because there is a certain amount of urgency surrounding trade deadline day. Teams are desperately trying to acquire players that they could sign to long-term deals during the deadline, because it’s the only time they can re-sign them on reasonable terms, and it’s the only time they can take them to free agency during the summer. Teams also want to keep their stars because they could be a valuable asset to a contender later in the postseason.
It’s a tricky trade deadline. Teams are usually hesitant to make big moves during this time, because they fear the possibility of having to give up valuable assets to someone else, or the team could lose a star to injury, and if they don’t re-sign that player to a long-term contract, they risk losing them to a rival team.
The biggest thing you have to remember when trading is that you have to be completely comfortable with the other team because if you are not, the deal just might get done. And if that team isnt 100% comfortable with you, its not worth it.
The NBA Trade Deadline is actually a huge deal for teams. Teams must make huge moves during this time because if they dont, they risk losing valuable assets (say, players) to someone else. Also, a team that trades away a star may lose a star to injury, and if its not in a long-term contract, then its not worth it. For example, the Chicago Bulls traded away Derrick Rose for a pick.
The Chicago Bulls are no longer a contender. They were in the playoff mix for the past few seasons, and the playoffs are a great indicator of a team’s long-term playoff potential. But in the past, they have made the playoffs each of the last three years, and none of that has been for the last two. Now the Bulls are in the cellar of the Eastern Conference, but they still must make a move to get to the playoffs.
The Bulls have been through a rough stretch, but the most recent downturn has been in the form of Derrick Rose going from being a star in Chicago to a guy who’s not much of a basketball player. That’s not really a sign of hope for the team, because Rose was one of the best players in the league last year. He’ll always have a claim to being a great player.
This is a nice reminder of the Bulls success against the Raptors last year. Derrick played a big role in that game, and the Bulls have made up for a lack of the star power by acquiring some high-level vets in the offseason. I think the Bulls have some big problems on the defensive end. This is one of those years when I dont expect the Bulls to be good, but I expect them to be good.
