We at Mendocino County are always looking for ways to improve our community, and we’ve found that social media is an important part of that process. Through the #SheriffsMustBeLiked campaign, we are hoping to instill a sense of accountability with social media.
When it comes to social media, we know that social media is a great place for gathering content and connecting with friends and family, but what about the SheriffSheriffs Department? They use it all the time to engage our community, and we want to make sure that social media is part of that.
The recent campaign that’s been started is a step in the right direction. The campaign consists of a Facebook event, a Twitter page, and an Instagram feed. The Facebook event is being promoted through the Sheriff’s official Facebook page and will feature an interactive game where the Sheriff will be a “SavingtheWorld” character.
The game idea came from a chat with Greg Wilcox, the Deputy Sheriff and former Sheriff of the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department. He mentioned that he was looking for a way to use social media to make the Sheriff’s Department look like a community. That seemed like it fit well with the idea of a game that would be fun to experience.
The game will be available for free to all Mendocino County, California, residents. The official page is here. You can find out more at www.sheriffs.org/news/event.
The idea for this game isn’t new. Mendocino County has been using the Sheriff’s Facebook page since 2006 to keep tabs on the Sheriff’s events and other information about the department. It’s also a great place to share news and updates about your local law enforcement.
The game is developed by a team out of Redwood City, California. The game will feature a new Sheriff, an officer who is a computer hacker (think a cyber version of a cop), an anti-crime team, and a series of missions to complete with the Sheriff. The game will also feature a co-op mode.

The game will also have a companion app called Mendocino. It will have an interface that resembles a traditional app, but it will feature more gameplay. The game will be optimized for the iPad, but it will be available on the iPhone as well.
