This is the sixth consecutive year that the jersey city area was named the “best place to live” for the second year in a row. A poll conducted by the Jersey City Monthly newspaper showed that the city is well known for being a “downtown town,” which is a very good thing.
In addition to this, there is a strong connection between Jersey City and its surroundings as well. Located on the North Shore, it was a hub of shipping during the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, which explains how it became one of the most prosperous cities in the U.S.
When I was growing up (as part of a family in New Jersey) our favorite thing to do was to go to the Jersey City Maritime Museum. Located at the harbor, the museum is open to the public and is a great place to see the ships that helped shape up the port. It is also a good place to learn about the history of Jersey City.
The museum itself runs along the harborfront with a wide variety of different ships, and the exhibits are very well-curated. They even have a boat called “The Great America,” which was constructed in 1837 and it’s still used today. The museum is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and admission is free.
The museum is located on the waterfront so it’s a great location to see these large ships from the past. But, because the museum is the only one of its kind in the area, it is definitely a place to avoid during the summer and on weekends.
