I’m not going to lie: I was a little bummed when I heard about the recent announcement that the federal government will be buying up and auctioning off 1,000 acres of land in central Maine to get a little fresh air and more open space.
I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I was all for the government putting up a bunch of new roads, putting up an interchange, and making the area a bit less than desolate. But not for the government taking over 1,000 acres of the land in central Maine and auctioning it off for the land’s intended purpose.
The federal government is going to do this because of how land grants are awarded. To get a grant, the government looks at some factors to determine how many acres of a given piece of land a person has in their possession.
The government is in the process of auctioning off 1,000 acres of land in central Maine to the highest bidder, which is why it’s doing this. The cost of acquiring this land is roughly $1 million, or more than $1.5 million if you include interest, so the government is going to be giving the land away for free.
The idea of free land is great. It’s going to be a nice perk to a lot of people who have land and are looking to sell it. It’s a way to grab some capital and put some money towards growing their property. It’s also going to be a good way to get some more cash for the family farm.
Its not that free land is going to be all that cheap. This is going to be a great deal for the government. If we take 2 million for the land, then the government is in the process of paying off the state to give the land to the highest bidder. At this point the government is essentially paying for the land to be acquired. The government has no intention of re-selling the land to anyone.
Not only is the land being acquired, but the government is in the process of negotiating a deal with the land owner to pay off the state to give the land to the highest bidder. This is another way for the state (and the government if you want) to take ownership for free.
This is the second time the state has tried to take ownership for free. Back in the 90’s the state tried to take ownership for free to build a new stadium for the city. The state didn’t manage to make the deal work, but it did manage to take control of the land for free. There is some precedent for the state to give land for free, but the state has yet to actually take ownership for free.
There are some people who don’t see any problem with this. There is no way the state is going to take any of the land without taking back ownership. This is just another way for the state to take control of our land at the expense of our people. It’s just another way for the state to take ownership for free.
The deal worked because the state came through and offered help with taking care of the land for free. This is because the people who actually did work on the land are the ones who most likely voted for the deal. This is the type of deal that the people who actually voted for the deal understand. The deal has also been made easier because there were no other people on the board who seem to have any knowledge of land ownership.
