I’ve been gluten-free for about 2 years now, and I’ve been doing a lot of research on gluten-free food and eating. When it comes to eating gluten-free, I’ve discovered some things that make me feel a little strange. When I first discovered that I was gluten-free, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to eat for dinner. I always wanted to have a veggie-filled pasta dinner.
Yes, that is right. You’ve probably been wondering why the title says “gluten-free food” since you’re reading this. Well, it’s because of that whole gluten thing. Gluten is a protein that can cause issues with the immune system. I’ve been on a gluten-free diet for over two years now and I can attest that I have been quite happy with it.
Glutens are proteins that are found in wheat and whole grains like oats and rice. You can find gluten in some processed foods, but in your diet as a whole you will probably find it in your smoothies and soups, snacks, and baking goods. Gluten-free is a term that is used for products that do not contain gluten. It is used for people who do not have Celiac Disease, but if you do, you will still have a gluten-free diet.
I have actually had a hard time finding gluten-free baking products on my own. The closest I have come is going to a gluten-free supermarket that only has rice, corn, and white flour products. The problem is, like the other gluten-free foods I have tried, they are still all too often filled with corn syrup, margarine, and processed sugar. The good news is that gluten-free baking products like this are beginning to trend more.
I’m not sure what the issue is, to be honest, but I’ve seen many people who are gluten-free actually complain that their gluten-free foods are too sweet, but the problem with that is that gluten-free food is still not a healthy diet. If you’re eating gluten-free, you are still eating a lot of processed sugar and corn syrup, so the natural sweetener in the food may not be the best choice.
As I mentioned earlier, when you are dealing with processed sugar and processed flour, you are sacrificing natural sweetness for artificial sweetness. This is a common problem with those who are trying to be gluten-free and are worried about it. But there is a solution. As you probably know, gluten-free baking products are made with coconut flour and all the natural sweetness of the fruit. So instead of eating sugary foods, just eat fruits whose natural sweetness has been adjusted to taste better.
You can also add a little bit of honey (or agave or maple syrup, or vanilla extract) to your baked goods, or you can use coconut sugar (made from coconut oil or coconut palm sugar) instead.
I think it’s a really good idea. It’s probably the easiest thing that you could do if you’re worried about gluten and are trying to be gluten-free.
Well, you can certainly do it yourself. I just read that the healthiest option is to use coconut flour instead of cornstarch. It’s a very natural product, and it’s actually made from what we call the “coconut palm” tree. So basically, you can make it using coconut oil, and you can make it using coconut flour.
That’s a great idea and I’m all for it. The problem is, once you go gluten-free, you’ll probably want to make a gluten-free bread recipe for the rest of your life. Since I hate bread, I wouldn’t do that for a living. I’d rather die of boredom than have that happen. So that’s why I’m not a fan of bread.
