The cataract surgery scar tissue is thick and dense, similar to the tissue underneath your eyelid. This means that in order to work, you will have to use a surgical laser to break down the scar tissue, and because it’s so thick, you’ll need to be careful about how you hold your head up while bending over. If you don’t have enough muscle to hold yourself up while doing the surgery, you could break your skull.
This is one of those things that is so very annoying, and so very real. For example, I had an eye surgery a few months ago and the scar tissue that was left behind is incredibly thick and strong. It really does take a lot of power to pull that tissue apart, and I was almost completely blind three days after surgery.
In case you don’t know, scar tissue is actually a kind of jelly that forms on the wound after surgery. We all have some scar tissue around the stitches that we use, but some of that is actually tissue from the eye itself. In the surgery, the surgeon cuts the tissue from the eye and then sews it back together so it doesn’t fall off.
It does take a lot of power to create scar tissue, but the fact is that the scar tissue that goes along with cataract surgery, is actually one of the strongest parts of the eye. The surgeon is able to pull the tissue apart so it is extremely strong and can completely sever the blood supply to the eye. Because scar tissue is so strong, it actually prevents a lot of damage from happening.
The good thing is that people with cataract surgery scars are usually pain-free. The bad thing is that scar tissue can also be a risk factor for the development of retinal vein occlusion, a condition that can cause a lot of bleeding and loss of vision. For this reason, it’s important to consult with a doctor to make sure you aren’t at risk of developing the condition.
The process of removing the scar tissue is called scar revision. It’s very risky and is usually done at a specialist’s recommendation, so be sure to ask your doctor for a referral.
When a patient first presents with a scar, the doctors will typically advise them to take it slow and avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks. The scar tissue is also removed slowly over time and the doctor can usually remove the scar tissue without causing any further problems.
The scar tissue can come in all shapes and sizes. Some are tiny and can remain just visible on the skin, while others are large enough to be seen by the naked eye. Scar revision can cause a bit of discomfort, especially if it doesn’t go as planned. It is also important to note that patients who have scars that are larger than 1/2 inch may need to have an additional procedure, called scar revision/laser scar revision.
Scar revision surgery can have a lot of benefits. The scar tissue is removed which improves the appearance of the scar. Scar revision surgery is also considered a cosmetic procedure and is often performed to avoid scarring in the first place, or as a way to improve the appearance of scar tissue. It is also important to note that scars that are larger than 12 inch can be a problem in cataract surgery.
In addition to scar revision surgery, there are a few other ways to treat scar tissue. When scar tissue is not enough, scar revision surgery can be done to remove the excess tissue. Scar revision surgery can also be done to remove the scar tissue from the donor’s eyes. There are also a few different ways to minimize scar tissue. For example, anti-aging creams and serums are great ways to minimize the appearance of age spots.
